Modernize Your Business with Video Conferencing Systems!

Wednesday, November 26th, 2014

Ever wonder how today’s most successful businesses seem to be operating on a global scale, all from the comfort of a single office building? One of the methods that is becoming more and more commonly used by companies nationwide is taking advantage of video conferencing technologies. With video conferencing, your company will be able to reach out and communicate with clients, colleagues, and other companies like never before. Unlike a conference call, email chain, or other form of interaction, video conferencing brings the real-time, face-to-face experience to businesses even when they are hundreds of miles away. Read on to find out more about the benefits of video conferencing and how your business can get set up with the best system to take advantage of this big business world trend.

videoconferencingVideo Conferencing Makes Business Personal

Unlike other forms of business communication that may have been used frequently in the past, video conferencing actually works to recreate the feel of an in-person conversation. Rather than stumbling through an awkward phone call or trying to convey the entirety of an idea through email correspondence, you can have a real-time talk that is the most ideal for the majority of business conversations.

Do your videoconferencing needs extend beyond a simple two-person talk? Systems can be designed to support three or more participants easily, ensuring that everyone has the highest quality audio equipment and cameras available to give you a flawless conference experience every time.

In-wall and Ceiling Speakers Save Space in Your Home Theatre

Friday, November 14th, 2014

When it comes to installing a home theatre, many homeowners wonder whether the big screen TV, wires, and speakers will end up being too obtrusive. The sheer size can be intimidating, it’s true, but you do not necessarily have to sacrifice space for quality in your theatre system’s design. What is one of the best ways to save on space and keep your home theatre looking organized? Having in-wall and ceiling speakers installed! Read on to find out more.

inwallceilingspeakersWhat are the Benefits of In-wall Speakers?

In-wall speakers, as the name indicates, are speakers that are mounted in the wall of your home theatre rather than left free-standing. These provide an obvious advantage to the homeowner looking to save on space: With the speakers mounted in the wall, you will have nothing but clean lines and open spaces to contend with! In-wall speakers do not stick out and become an eyesore, and they can still provide the top-quality sound you would expect from a professionally-designed home theatre system.

What are the Benefits of Ceiling Speakers?

Ceiling speakers provide many of the same benefits as in-wall speakers, only they, of course, are mounted in the ceiling instead. This also allows for serious space-saving capacity! You can even have a combination of in-wall and ceiling speakers installed to make your audio experience even more incredible.

Installing in-wall and ceiling speakers is no DIY task. It requires special tools and skillsets to ensure that your wiring is done properly, and so if you are interested in in-wall and ceiling speakers, get in touch with Down to Earth Communications today!

Your Maryland Home Theatre Experts Explain: Surround Sound

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014

surround soundPeople have been going to the movies for decades. In fact, the first industry to really boast air conditioning was the movie theatre industry. People enjoyed spending hot afternoons in a cool, dark movie theatre, enjoying entertainment and a great atmosphere. Not much has changed about the reasons that we love movies, but the way that we enjoy them definitely has. Surround sound and crystal clear images have made movie going into an art. Better yet, we’ve brought both of those things into home theatre. Surround sound is one of the biggest innovations in the way that we experience movies and sound in general. Let’s find out a little bit more about how it works!

What is Surround Sound?

When movie theatres were originally started using sound, they used monaural sound – sound that is recorded with one microphone and comes out of all speakers. This is the simplest type of sound. Multi-channel sound has been used for much longer. It allows listeners to hear sound coming from at least two different spots, mimicking the way that humans actually hear things when they’re present in a situation. Surround sound picks up sound in three or more different directions so that you get the full experience of being present in the movie, TV show, or video game. It gives the listener a completely immersive experience.

Today, surround sound recording is an art form requiring finesse. In order for surround sound to work, you need speakers that have what’s called a “surround sound decoder.” What this does is pull the different sound from the different channels and push it out to the proper speakers. This is why it’s so important that your surround sound speakers are installed properly. For example, if a car in a movie is zooming by from left to right, you want the music coming out of your speakers from left to right to feel like the car actually just drove by you. Through the use of front, rear, and now overhead speakers, you can essentially drop yourself in any movie that’s equipped for surround sound. The experts at Dolby have been working on improving surround sound since its inception and are still the leaders in sound innovation.

Professional Surround Sound Installation

Surround sound installation takes a lot of focus, patience, and skill. If you have limited experience in working with speakers or electronics, it’s best to bring in a professional who can help you optimize the sound in your Maryland home theatre! DIRECTV Installation for Your Baltimore County Gym

Friday, August 1st, 2014

directv marylandRunning a gym can be a challenge – there’s no doubt about it. You need to make sure that you have all of the equipment that your patrons want and that they also can enjoy a workout in your gym. Since motivation can run pretty low for a 6 AM hour-long cardio session, you want to give your gym members any motivation to get them out of bed and on to the treadmill (or elliptical, stair stepper, etc). Likewise, people don’t always like going to the gym in the evening because they think they’re missing out on something (FOMO gets the best of us). Make sure your patrons never feel like they’re missing anything – with DIRECTV.

What are the Benefits of DirecTV For My Baltimore County Gym?

  • Relieve the boredom – “Just 5 more minutes. . .okay, maybe just 2 more minutes.” How many times have you thought this while on the treadmill? Imagine how many times per day it goes through your members’ minds. Having DirecTV installed either directly on your cardio machines or overhead can help relieve boredom and inspire people to finish a full 30 minute or hour-long workout because they want to finish the show – a little inspiration can go a long way for gym goers and they’ll appreciate the extra boost.
  • Knock out the excuses – Missing a TV show is no longer a good excuse to stay home from the gym. In fact, going to the gym could become a ritual for watching TV shows. Depending on the package you select, you could make it so that each guest is able to watch whatever they like while they work out. Miss “The Big Bang Theory” because you’re going to the gym? Nope. Help your members get some laughs in and enjoy their shows while they work out!
  • Add some music – Many DirecTV packages come with the option for all different types of music channels. Forgot an mp3 player? No problem! Plug in and listen to some great different types of workout music! Members will be able to choose whether they like to work out to rock, hip hop, or even salsa in some cases. DirecTV allows your gym members to catch up on the news or listen to some of the newest hits while getting a workout in.

All of the newest and most successful gyms offer a television option to their clients – it’s time for you to jump on the bandwagon, too, and offer your members the best in DirecTV! Down to Earth Communications, Inc. has over 15 years’ experience in commercial and residential audio and video installations. Wireless Home Theatre Installation

Thursday, July 24th, 2014

wireless speakersIf you’ve ever installed any type of electronics, you know how much of a hassle cords can be. They somehow manage to tangle themselves in the time it takes you to turn around for 10 seconds. Ever wondered how they manage to do that? So do we. It’s one of the great mysteries of the universe. In the meantime, the best that we can do is to avoid letting those cords get tangled – by not using them. Wireless systems are becoming easier to integrate the more that people jump on board the wireless train. If you think about it, almost everything is wireless now. You can have a wireless mouse, keyboard, even computer. So why not go for a wireless home theatre system?

What are the Benefits of a Wireless Home Theatre System?

  • You’ve got nothing to hide. If you’re like millions of other people, you’ve probably at one point spent hours trying to hide ugly, cumbersome wires. Your home theatre system will look much cleaner and more professional if its wireless. Plus, you won’t have to worry about coming up with any fancy techniques for hiding those wires using fabric or something crazy.
  • They’re easier to install. You’ll still want to have a professional do your home theatre system installation because they know where things go and the best way to network things, but this means that you’ll probably pay less for installation. You won’t have to worry about wiring through the walls or stapling wires to your drywall.
  • Put things where you want them. Wires can make it difficult to put speakers where you want them. You’re limited to where the wire plugs in and how long it is. This can make getting the true surround sound experience challenging and frustrating, especially during installation. Going wireless prevents this problem entirely.
  • They’re easy to control. With technology like wi-fi and Bluetooth, you can easily control your speakers and other home theatre components directly from your couch with your phone or other wireless electronic device. You won’t even have to worry about what happened to the remote (or which remote is which, for that matter). Control everything right from your phone or tablet.

Dolby Atmos to Change the Face of Surround Sound

Friday, July 11th, 2014

dolby atmosOr change the ears, rather, depending on how you want to look at it. Surround sound is one of the best reasons to have a home theatre system installed in the first place. Being immersed in 360 degree sound while watching your favorite movie or playing your favorite game can improve the whole experience. Dolby’s new system, Atmos, promises to give you even more of an immersive experience than their previous models. How? By giving you the real theatre experience. You’ll be able to get sound coming from above you now as opposed to just the sides. For effects like pouring rain and loud airplanes, it’ll be a pretty cool new development.

Speakers in the ceiling? Some people won’t be able to do speakers in the ceiling, which is understandable. Ceilings can obviously be difficult to access unless you’re building your home theatre system as you’re building your home. We can install them, but it has the potential to be a difficult process that may or may not work for your home. For those who can’t have speakers installed in their ceilings, Dolby will offer speakers that can still give you the complete surround sound experience. They’ve found a way, using physics and what we can only assume is magic, to create an audio illusion that makes it seem like the sound is still coming from above.

Sound like this has been in commercial movie theatres for a while now. Consider movies like Noah where the flood rains started pounding from above – there obviously needed to be some good effects for that. The cinema version of Atmos sound has been around since 2012 and will begin making its way into home starting in the fall of this year. Not too bad of a turnaround time, on the whole. Atmos will be flexible for people who like to customize their surround sound. Those who love to work with audio and listen to the best sound available will be excited to try out Dolby’s new Atmos system.

Multimedia Conference Room for Your Maryland Office

Thursday, July 3rd, 2014

multimedia conferencingConferencing is the backbone of any office and it’s starting to come into the age of technology. Being able to discuss something with clients and employees at once has never been as easy as it is today. Many times employees are in different offices and need to be able to conference in from long distances. It’s not always feasible for them to travel halfway across the country just for one (semi) important meeting. Luckily, there are solutions that are popping up to make it easy for people not only nationwide, but worldwide to be able to be part of a conference of meeting. Investing in a multimedia conference room is one of the best solutions to this problem to date.

  1. Bring everyone in – Many people telecommute to work today as is. Being able to join a conference from the comfort of your own home office is a huge benefit for many employees as well as employers. It saves the employee money on gas as well as time. They’re able to be more productive on the tasks that require their attention if they aren’t spending an extra 30 minutes to an hour commuting to the office. As previously mentioned, you can also include colleagues from across the world!
  2. Do more than just talk – Being able to see someone face to face in a multimedia conference room can help with communication. Consider how much you lose when you can’t see a person’s facial expression or body language. Multimedia conference rooms break down those barriers and allow you to have a conversation with a person who you can actually see and talk to in real time. You can also share and view important documents while you’re video conferencing if you invest in the right multimedia conferencing system.
  3. Easily scale up or down – Most multimedia systems are not only for the conference room, but can be scaled out to the entire office. They allow you to scale for size when your company grows or if you need to cut some spending. It’s a great way to enhance communication within the office as well as outside the office. Having the ability to add more phone lines or accounts to your networked office will make it easier to grow your company and keep in contact with clients and customers.

A multimedia conference room is a great investment for your Maryland office. You just need to find the right person to install it! At Down to Earth Communications, we know how to install a multimedia conference room that will be useful to you and help you stay in communication with people in and out of your office.  To get started with an estimate, give us a call at 410.242.0000 or feel free to contact us via the website so we can help you with all of your commercial audio/visual needs!

Audio/Visual System Installation for Hospitals in Maryland

Thursday, March 27th, 2014

HospitalHospitals are arguably one of the most important places in the world to keep updated. Nurses and doctors hold lives in their hands every minute of every hour of every day. It’s necessary that the technology in hospitals is consistently up to date and usable to assist in the tough job of saving lives. Having good audio/visual installation is crucial to this, not only for the safety of patients and hospital personnel, but also to make patients as comfortable as possible. Check out some important reasons to have good audio/visual systems in hospitals.

  • Patient Care – Some patients spend months or even years in the hospital. Giving them a way to entertain themselves is important. Having a TV with good sound can make all of the difference for a patient who enjoys watching their shows and is having a tough go of it.
  • Communication – Sound systems are incredibly important in hospitals for communication among the staff. If someone needs to be somewhere immediately, sometimes the best way to get his or her attention is over a sound system that projects to the entire hospital. The better and more efficient the sound system, the better and more efficient hospital personnel can be.
  • Surveillance – CCTV cameras around the hospital can be useful if a patient goes missing or if an emergency situation occurs in the hospital. For example, if there is a theft or an unauthorized person in a restricted area of the hospital, security and police will have the ability to catch the perpetrator quickly. CCTV cameras also allow for less security to be on the premises at all times of day.

As the places we go when things go very wrong, we want hospitals to work efficiently and have up to date systems. The best way to ensure this is to have professionally installed audio/visual equipment throughout the hospital.

Down to Earth Communications, Inc. has over 15 years of experience in commercial and residential audio and video installations for an array of clients within Maryland. We have created custom audio and video systems for apartments, hospitals, airports, stadiums, corporate businesses, restaurants, residential homes and more. Our clients rave about our quality, craftsmanship and affordability. If you have any questions about our blog, Hospital Audio/Visual Installation in Maryland, give us a call at 410.242.0000.

5 Reasons to Get Professional Audio/Video Installation in your Restaurant

Friday, March 7th, 2014

RestaurantAre you a restaurant owner looking to boost business and find a way to keep people coming back? If you’re having some issues getting new customers, return customers, or your restaurant is starting to feel a little outdated, a professionally installed audio/video system could be the answer you’re looking for. We’ve compiled 5 great reasons to get a new audio/video system installed in your restaurant ASAP.

  1. One of the things that people look for in a great restaurant is a great atmosphere. Even restaurants that have stellar menus and have been around the block a time or two can suffer from a bad atmosphere. Consider this: when was the last time you went into a store or restaurant without music? Did it seem awkward or uncomfortable? People like background noise, and the right audio/video system can give you that.
  2. Get people to stick around longer. If you have a great video system installed, your guests are likely to hang out in your restaurant longer; this leads to more food and drink revenue for you. If the big game is on, people want to see it BIG and LOUD. Give them a great place to watch it while indulging in good food.
  3. Update your look and feel. We all get stuck in ruts sometimes. People get haircuts and try out new fashions because change is necessary. Adding or revamping your audio/video system might just be a small part of a big change, but it could be the change that the restaurant needs to launch it back to the top of the list in your area!
  4. If you have a 4 or 5 star restaurant, people expect 4 or 5 star entertainment to go with it. Having an audio system that can play music and make it sound like the band is in the room is a necessity. You want your guests to feel like they have the total experience of a mini vacation from real life.
  5. Professionals know best. It’s important to keep this in mind. Professional audio/video installation means that you’re getting best bang for your buck. A professional company will know exactly where and how to install a great speaker system that doesn’t have wires showing. They’ll also know where to put TVs for the greatest viewing capabilities. Hiring a professional to install your new audio/video system will ensure that the process goes smoothly.

Ready to revamp your restaurant? Spring is a great time to get started with both indoor and outdoor audio/video systems. Fresh starts are great this time of year. Are you ready to take the next step in audio/video solutions?
